After big summer rains, water roars down the creek and floods the valley. At one end the dam becomes a raging waterfall, and I wonder where the turtles shelter. But when the dam settles down again, there they are: heads bobbing and saucer-shaped shells just visible beneath the water.

After big summer rains, water roars down the creek and floods the valley. At one end the dam becomes a raging waterfall, and I wonder where the turtles shelter. But when the dam settles down again, there they are: heads bobbing and saucer-shaped shells just visible beneath the water.
